Wholesale Buyer Requirements

A wholesale buyer, as the name suggests, is one who buys materials in bulk with the intention of reselling and making a profit. A wholesale buyer mostly targets firms for reselling. This has many advantages. Firms demand for material is bulk, the volume is high, and so the profit can be high. Moreover firms may give their order beforehand, so a study of the demand conditions may not be necessary. Generally wholesale buyers need to study the market, estimate the demand, and then buy in wholesale prices. The education and job requirements needed for this post are given below:

Education Requirements:

  • Aspirants who want to become a wholesale buyer should at least possess a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferable streams of education are sales, retail management, merchandise management, etc.
  • A candidate with post graduation stream in any related subject will have preference over the other.
  • A few years of experience also proves to be very valuable.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates should be able to analyse the market, predict an expected demand, and understand business and customer requirements.
  • Candidates should possess good sales, and bargaining skills to buy materials at low cost and maximise their profits.
  • Candidates should be able to fix a price that is not too high or too low and matches with the customer’s expectations.
  • Candidates should have good communication skills.
  • They need to maintain a record of all merchandise bought and sold.
  • The candidate should have good interpersonal skills and should be capable of maintaining proper accounts.
