A web programmer is sometimes referred to as a web developer and their primary job responsibility is to create innovative web content using programming languages and other related tools. A web programmer needs to possess high level programming skills and should be able to work with cutting edge technology tools, information-retrieval algorithms, maintain existing web applications and create new ones, document codes, contribute towards server side programming, manage and troubleshoot complex website applications, and much more.

In order to handle such a wide variety of web programming requirements, a web programmer needs to have extensive knowledge of several web based coding languages like java, C++, PHP, Perl etc. At the same time, a web programmer also needs to have practical experience of working on projects that involve active programming in real time.

In order to pursue a career as a web programmer, one will need to possess experience in programming as well. Some organizations ask for a minimum experience of 1-3 years while other organizations recruit in-experienced web programmers as trainees.  One of the best ways to get hands-on or real time experience is by completing summer training projects in college or applying for internship.
