Security Guard Education Requirements

Though there are no specific degrees or education required in order to become a security guard, but it is necessary for an individual to have the needed skills and training. Some organizations or employers may want to hire applicants who have a high school degree or have pursued a certain diploma course. In order to work as a security guard in a casino or in the field of investigation, the individual should have postsecondary degrees or certificates.

The training should teach about inheriting the skills that a security guard should possess. A security guard can also pursue an associate program or a certificate program in the field of criminal justice. Most security guards receive on job training. The training for a security guard should also include gaining knowledge about use of security equipments, weapon retention and self defense.

  • Annual continuing education courses conducted by employer

It is the rule in every state that a security guard is licensed in order to get a job. The individual should also be above the age of 18 years.
