Receiving Clerk Requirements

Receiving clerks are assigned the responsibility of checking in shipments of an organization. The supplies in shipments are required to ensure smooth flow of business operations and continued generation of revenues. The work is not very difficult and anyone with little knowledge of handling goods can easily aim to become a receiving clerk. A Receiving Clerk needs to stock keep the incoming shipment, ensure their quality as per expectations, and report discrepancies of any kind. The education requirements and job requirements pertaining to the profession of a Receiving clerk are described below.

Education Requirements:

  • There is no mandatory education requirement to become a receiving clerk.
  • Candidates who have completed their high school education can easily apply for the job of a receiving clerk and they will have an advantage over the other candidates.
  • Courses in accountancy and material management can help candidates grasp the work easily.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates must be able to check the shipments with the invoices and match the goods accordingly.
  • Candidates are expected to maintain books of incoming shipments from warehouses of different locations.
  • Maintain record of documents of shipments received, shipments accepted and rejected reasons for rejection, quality test results, etc.
  • Unloading the shipments and transporting them to different storage locations also come under the responsibility of a receiving clerk.
  • Candidates must be able to work in teams and possess good communication skills.
  • Candidates should ensure smooth flow of goods through shipments.
  • Candidates must adhere to time schedules.
