Physician Assistant College Requirements

Physician assistant requirements are the set of pre requisites that a candidate must satisfy for admittance in a Physician assistant college. The candidates who apply for admission must demonstrate their ability to handle and understand the scientific concepts. The candidates are also requires to demonstrate the completion of academic requisites and academic achievements through their undergraduate or graduate level education. Following are the requirements to apply in a Physician assistant college:

  • The candidates must have completed their high school education or GED from an accredited institution.
  • After high school, candidates are required to enroll for and complete their bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. The bachelor’s degree must be completed with an aggregate minimum GPA of 3.0 to complete with other candidates applying for admission. The bachelor’s degree can be completed in the courses like biology, science, chemistry, human physiology, human anatomy or related streams.
  • Then the candidates need to appear for GRE (Graduate Record Examination) and are required to possess a minimum aggregate of 3.5 in analytical sections. The score of quantitative and verbal sections should also be good, but the exact cut off percentage depends on the number of candidates applying with the scores achieved by them.
  • One of the requirements which is not a mandatory requirement with all the Physician assistant colleges is BLS certification. Some institutions require candidates to possess BLS certification and many institutions do not accept the BLS certification are those which don not completely comply with American Heart Association or American Red Cross guidelines.
  • There are some more examinations which are considered as Physician assistant college requirements by some institutions. The candidates are then required to pass the below given examinations in order to acquire graduation from an accredited institution for Physician assistant college requirements education:
    • Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE)
    • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
    • At least 100 hours of continuing medical education
