PHR Certificate Requirements


Any candidate working as a professional Human Resource manager or in the HR field can consider earning the PHR (Professional in Human resources) certificate in order to enhance their professional qualification. The PHR certificate is a credential issued to the professionals working in the HR field by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) upon successfully fulfilling the HR certificate requirements. Requirements for PHR certificate:

Prerequisites:

  • A candidate must possess at least 1 year of demonstrated HR work experience and must hold a master’s degree in Human resource field.
  • Or a candidate must possess at least 2 years of demonstrated HR work experience and must hold a bachelor’s degree in Human resource field or any closely associated stream.
  • Or a candidate must possess at least 4 years of demonstrated HR work experience if he possess an academic qualification less than bachelor’s degree in Human resource field or any closely associated stream.

PHR Exam:

After satisfying the required pre-requisites for the PHR certificate a candidate is required to take the comprehensive PHR examination arranged by Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). This exam focuses on six different subjects related with HR practice. Following are the subjects on the basis of which the examination is conducted:

  • Workforce planning and employment
  • Strategic management
  • Risk management
  • Employee and labor relations
  • Total rewards
  • HR development

The candidates are required to prepare for the exam with the detailed knowledge for the above mentioned subjects and must also possess excellent knowledge about latest trends in the above mentioned areas.

Re Certification OF PHR certificate

HRCI requires the certified candidates to take the recertification every three years. Recertification can be obtained either by demonstrating professional development experience in HR or by re-taking the exam.
