Phlebotomy Technician Education

Phlebotomy technicians are the clinical professionals whose job responsibilities include collection of blood samples of patients for various blood tests. These candidates are required to complete the training programs specifically aimed for imparting phlebotomy education, to be able to practice their jobs.   • These candidates must take up the phlebotomy certification exam to become certified phlebotomy technicians. This certification exam is organized by American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • These candidates must also obtain necessary licenses to become eligible for a phlebotomy technician’s job.

Although there is no formal education programs for a phlebotomy technician but many community colleges offer short term education programs ranging from 10 – 12 weeks duration in phlebotomy. These candidates perform clinical tasks, hence the education programs designed for them gives them the necessary practical clinical experience to prepare them for the tasks that they will be required to perform in their job.

These education programs work on developing the required practical skills as much emphasis on theoretical knowledge is not required for such professionals.
