Oil Rig Operator Requirements

The oil rig operator has the main responsibility to supervise the operational activities of an oil rig on a regular basis. The person guides and instructs a team of workmen in the various activities of rigging oil from the bore. The oil rig operator is usually recruited by private oil companies or by government agencies. He/she strategizes the options to efficiently manoeuvre the actions centred on oil rig projects. The oil rig operator must also know the regulatory framework of the company and the administrative authorities.

Education Requirements:

  • A high school degree in the science stream.
  • A bachelor’s degree in geological sciences or in a subject closely related to this field.
  • A master’s degree in geological sciences from a reputed university is a big plus in the candidate’s profile.
  • Certified training in oil rigging projects is highly sought.
  • Associated degree in petroleum technology from an accredited institute would put the candidate at an advantageous position to get the job.

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum experience of 2 to 3 years as an oil rig operator in a reputed company with positive credentials.
  • Must possess ample expertise in regards to the various kinds of rig operations.
  • Should have excellent coordination skills and be able to lead a team of subordinates.
  • Must know to optimize costs while conducting the operational activities of oil rigging.
  • Should report to the seniors about the rigging processes.
  • Must document the progress of the project on a regular basis.
  • Should be sincere and hard-working.
