Nursing Training Requirements


Nursing training requirements are important in order to be established in this field. It is not enough to gain educational and theoretical knowledge but also have proper training for the application in different medical situations. It is essential that training is acquired over time and from proper institutions. There are different training institutes which specialize in this field. Most hospitals and heath facilities hire nurses who are educationally and training wise qualified. There are different types of nursing training programs and is dependent on the candidate and his or her field of specialization. The training ranges from public health nurse training to ER nurse training.

What are the various prerequisites for different nursing training?

Nurse training is dependent on the specific type of nurse course that one has opted for. There are specific levels of training that the candidate must go through and this is to be done as part of the educational courses for all:

  • Entry Level Training: For qualifying, the candidate must acquire a degree or diploma in nursing.   This is especially for vocational nurses and training involves clinical practices in hospitals such as first aid, anatomy, physiology etc.
  • Associate Level Training: A diploma or degree in nursing and qualifying the entry level training is important for the candidate in order to qualify for this level. This is for those aspiring to be RN or registered nurse. The training involves adult care, anatomy, medicinal practices and nutrition. At the completion, the candidate will receive an Associate Degree in nursing.
  • Bachelor Level Training: This is an advanced level which the candidate qualifies for after clearing the entry and advanced level training. This includes training in infant care, health care along with different theoretical courses in nursing and chemistry.
  • Advanced Master Level Training: After having qualified in the bachelor level training, a nurse can receive the advanced master level training which includes specific training in nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse and nurse midwives. This level is where the nurse able to select the preferred nursing choice

  • Licensure Examinations: Here the nurse aspirant is examined in his or her ability to handle different medically adverse conditions. Training helps nurses focus in these areas.
  • Certification: Through training, nurses are able to show their ability to help patients.

Advanced Certification: Training in child and adult health care helps the nurse qualify in this area.
