Nursing College Requirements


A nursing educational institution is a school/college where candidates are provided with the education and training to make them qualified nurses. Hence, nursing college requirements refer to the set of those procedures that a candidate must follow in order to get admission in a nursing college. There are many courses in nursing that a candidate can take, after completing his/her bachelor’s degree preferably with medical science related subjects like biology, medicine science etc. Candidates who have passed their high schools with medical stream can also apply for diploma level courses in nursing.

Types of degree and diploma courses in nursing and their requirements:

Diploma in nursing requirements: –

  • To get admission in diploma course in nursing you have to pass high school examination with excellent marks with subjects including Physics, chemistry and biology

Associate of Science in nursing requirements: – This course includes a 2-3 years of college study emphasizing on clinical skills and knowledge. Its requirements are:

  • Candidates possessing diploma in nursing can apply for this degree.
  • Candidates who have high school diploma preferably in science subjects like Physics, chemistry, life science, biology and English are eligible for associate degree program in nursing.

Bachelor of Science in nursing requirements: – This is a graduation level course of 4-5 years of duration, where graduation degree in nursing is provided by an accredited university. Its requirements are:

  • Candidates possessing diploma or associate in nursing can apply for this degree.
  • Candidates who have high school diploma preferably in science subjects like Physics, chemistry, life science, biology are eligible for the bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Candidates applying for bachelor’s degree may have to appear for entrance exam testing candidates on aptitude, subject knowledge and English language. However, all the universities not have these entrance exam criteria for admissions.

Master of Science in nursing requirements: – This is a post-graduation program having duration of 1-3 years where the education is focused on developing the leadership, research and clinical skills. Its requirements are:

  • This course is for students who hold bachelor’s degree or higher degree in nursing or an academic field other than nursing.
  • Candidates from non-nursing background who hold under graduate degree in subjects like biology, life science, chemistry can also pursue this course. However, these candidates must have to show consistent performance during the study program.

Doctor of nursing practice requirements: –

  • This program is for those candidates who have a non-nursing bachelor’s degree and would like to become a nurse.
