  • Undergraduate program in music therapy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in music therapy.
  • An equivalent course in music therapy from accredited university when bachelor’s degree is obtained in a field of study other than music therapy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, music, audio technology, biology, social studies, behavioral science, disability study and general science study is suitable.
  • Master’s degree in music therapy.
  • Doctoral degree in music therapy.

While there are many qualifications that can be acquired by music therapist the practical training and aptitude of the candidate is very important for a successful career. Some of the skills that a music therapist must possess are empathetic approach, creative imagination to think differently for different disabilities, good communication skills etc. The candidate should also be aware of and practice the code of ethics and standards of clinical practice as stipulated by American Music Therapy Association. Apart from these skills the candidate should also acquire practical training by serving patients through community service or approved clinics during the education period.
