MRI Technician Education

MRI technicians are the professionals who operate Magnetic resonance Imaging scanners to develop a 3D image of human tissues and cells, which helps physician to identify and diagnose the health problems of the patients. There are no formal bachelor’s or master’s degrees in MRI technology, but many accredited institutions offer short term courses in MRI training to prepare technicians for these jobs. These short term education programs focus on imparting practical knowledge about MRI scanners and their operation to the individuals.

These education programs must utilize the modern methodologies and teaching techniques to prepare candidates with comprehensive knowledge about MRI, its functioning and usage.   • Associate level degree in clinical education or radiologic technology

  • Short term courses in MRI procedures and MRI instrumentation, MRI physics, patient care and safety or imaging law and ethics are also helpful in developing the requisite skill set for the job.
  • These candidates are also required to pass the certification exam for MRI technicians organized by  ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)

Although there are no stringent education requirements for a candidate who is looking forward to MRI technician as the career path, but these candidates must acquire the skills for the job from hands-on training programs. Since the nature of the job is completely practical, hence these candidates must have full operational knowledge regarding MRI. These individuals must also be able to take good care of patients and should have very good communication skills to deal efficiently with patients.
