Jewelery Designer Requirements

A person rendering original jewellery creations and constructing them as well is popularly known to be a Jewellery Designer. The designs so created do not simply cater to the needs of customers as simple wearable or decorative artifacts but also reveal some symbolic significance that affects the sentiments of the buyers. Jewellery Designers focus on certain technical aspects such as engraving, welding with lasers, setting stones, enameling, soldering and fabrication, polishing, etc. Dexterity, patience and diligence are the key aspects for survival and success in this job. Following are certain qualities that are required in an aspiring jewellery designer.

Education Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in art and designing is a must.
  • Candidates should have certain knowledge of jewellery making, blueprint reading, repairing jewellery, gemology, and also about the various tools used.
  • The applicant needs to possess some basic computing skills as now-a-days a considerable portion of the works are computer-aided design(CAD), which simplify the work and helps save both time and money.
  • Specialization or a master’s in jewellery designing will prove to be an added advantage.

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, creativity, originality, commercial awareness and a sense of fashion is highly sought-after skills.
  • Honesty and a sense of responsibility at all stages of interaction are expected among candidates, be it with artisans or clients.
  • Interested candidates must have ideas regarding marketing aspects and after-sales management, ensuring low investment and high turnover.
  • Most importantly, they must be able to adapt to the changing demands of the clientele and work accordingly.
