ISO Certification Requirements

ISO which stands for International Organization for Standardization is an international federation of national standards bodies. The ISO standardization ensures that an organization is following quality management systems and ISO certification requirements refer to the set of procedures that an organization must follow in order to get the ISO certification. There are mainly two types of ISO certifications – ISO 9000 and ISO 9001 which are further divided depending on the type of organization which is applying for ISO certification.

Authorities who can issue ISO certificates:

For issuing the ISO certificate to any organization, two federation groups work together – Accreditation bodies and Certification bodies. Accreditation bodies have been formed to authorize certification bodies which further audit and inspect the organizations to check that they are meeting the ISO standardization requirements for ISO 9001 compliance certificate. Both Accreditation bodies and Certification bodies charge certain amount of fees for their services and certificates issued by any accreditation certification bodies are valid worldwide.

        General requirements for obtaining ISO quality management certificates:

  • The organization needs to establish, document, implement, maintain and improve the organization’s process based QMS.
  • The quality management system of the organization needs to be documented.
  • The organization’s quality management documents must respect and reflect that what happens in the organization and how it happens.
  • The establishment, control and maintenance of the quality manual and QMS records must be done.
  • The management of the organization has to support the development of the organization’s QMS. They must also support the implementation and the continuous improvement of the organization’s QMS.
  • The management of the organization must work on enhancing the customer satisfaction and ensure that customer’s requirements are properly identified and are met.
  • The management must generate the management’s review decisions and actions for the improvement of the organization, quality orientation and for addressing resource needs.
  • The organization’s representatives must work on the identification of the required QMS resources and must provide them.
  • The management must identify, plan and implement the measurement and monitoring of the analytical processes which are required by your organization for demonstrating conformity and for making improvements.
  • The management of the organization must figure out that what sort of data needs to be collected about the organization’s QMS. The management must gather this information by analyzing QMS data.
