ECG Technician Requirements

Electrocardiogram or ECG technicians are employed in hospitals or laboratories to record electrical impulses from the heart of a patient and helps doctors to diagnose the condition of a patient. They work with many technical diagnostic apparatus like electrocardiogram, cardiogram, and other equipments. It is a much specialised responsibility and need a skilled trained person to handle. The education and job requirements of an ECG Technician are given below.

Education Requirements:

  • Candidates aspiring to become ECG technicians should at least complete high school and take up certification in Electrocardiogram.
  • Candidates should get a Bachelor’s degree at any of the recognized institutes in streams like cardiology, life sciences, etc.
  • There are various training programs and certification courses that also give exposure to the concepts and refine the skills to become a successful ECG technician.
  • Candidates must also look for opportunities like internships and doing live projects to understand the practical implications of the theoretical concepts.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates need to undergo detailed training to become familiar with the role.
  • Candidates should be willing to work in shifts and sometimes work overtime.
  • Candidates should assist cardiologists in attending to patients having serious ailments.
  • Candidates will be expected to attend patients at all time, move them if needed, and provide them regular monitoring.
  • Candidates should have very good knowledge of the technical equipments used by cardiologists and interpret them for right medication.
  • Candidates should be aware of different testing methods applied on heart patients.
  • The candidates should have good communication and interpersonal skills.
