An Earth Scientist is a professional who studies the geological sciences i.e. the study of the physical attributes of the earth. They study the earlier developments of evolution of earth by being interested in the archaeological remains on earth. They also find natural resources like minerals and oil by a combination of computer analysis and earth excavation. Candidates who want to become an Earth Scientist should have an educational background in geology or geophysics. There are many other related courses that can be taken which include palaeontology, mineralogy, etc. Earth Science is a specialised course and the candidate needs to have knack of the related field. The following are the educational requirements and job requirements of an earth scientist.

Education Requirements:

  • Candidates who want to become Earth Scientists should necessarily have an engineering background in geology, geophysics, mineralogy, geochemistry, palaeontology, seismology, etc.
  • Candidates should have an eye for detail as they need to connect various facts connected with geological attributes and frame the past of the earth. This is useful for mineral and oil exploration.
  • Candidates should also possess analytical skills and knack for earth exploration.

Job Requirements:

  • The Earth Scientist needs to carry out exploration of various regions on the globe by combining early facts with some mathematical and statistical analysis on the computer.
  • The Earth Scientist helps the government discovers many earlier antiques from inside the earth through excavation. This helps find the rich history of a region.
  • Candidates who are working as Earth Scientists should work for extended hours of time as they do not generally have any fixed timing for work. They should continuously discover and deliver results.
