Degree College Requirements


Degree college requirements are a set of requirements that a candidate must satisfy in order to get admission in a degree college. Once a candidate completes his high school, he has many options for courses which he can choose depending on his interest level and aim. There are various types of courses in which a candidate can enroll, and depending on the course are the requisites for the admission. Following are some general requirements which a candidate must satisfy to get admitted in the college:

College Degree and their requirements:

Associate Degree

An associate degree is generally designed as a two years course where a candidate is given elementary knowledge in the stream in which he / she is pursuing his/ her degree. The general requirements to get admission in an associate’s degree programs are:

  • A candidate must have passed high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • The candidates must have completed the basic high school level education in the required subjects.
  • Candidates must provide a basic medical certificate which demonstrates that he /she has a normal physical fitness level and is capable of attending regular laboratory and classroom study.

Baccalaureate or Bachelor’s degree

Bachelor’s degree programs are also available after high school and generally stretch over duration of 4 – 5 years. The general requirements to enter a bachelor’s degree programs are:

  • The candidate is required to pass high school diploma or GED.
  • After high school level education, candidate is required to give the relevant entrance examination depending on what study program he /she wants to enroll for. For example, for admission in engineering college one has to appear for SAT or ACT.
  • Candidates are also required to provide a basic medical certificate which demonstrates that he /she has a normal physical fitness level and is capable of attending regular laboratory and classroom study.

Graduate Degree

Graduate level degree programs are the ones, which students pursue to learn the advanced knowledge after completing bachelor’s degree in a particular stream. The general requirements for getting admission in the graduate degree course are:

  • The candidates are required to complete undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in the related stream.
  • Candidates are also required to fulfill any internship or hands on training requirement for the course, if specified. Some specific courses require a candidate to have completed hands on practical training in the course, through the internship programs offered by or after the undergraduate level degree courses.
