The job of a dance choreographer has creative facets to it. A dance choreographer needs to have knowledge about different kinds of dances and apply them innovatively in the steps of his/her dancers. The dance choreographer either works as a freelancer or for a creative performing group or for a dance troupe. The following points are brief indicators for the education and job requirements of a dance choreographer.

Education requirements:

  • Graduation in performing arts with any genre of dance as specialization.
  • Master’s in performing arts with first class grades.
  • Certified training in one or more varieties of dance forms other than specializations in the graduation courses is an added advantage.

Job requirements:

  • Must be able to experiment with variegated dance moves.
  • Should be able to mark the weaknesses and strengths of the dancers.
  • Must stress on organized auditions and rehearsals.
  • Should possess the administrative expertise to manage the operations of dance schools.
  • The person must be able to distinguish and improvise the programs in cases of stage shows, television programs and dance competitions.
  • He/she should interpret dance moves and possess an aesthetic sense in regards to the visual arts.
