Coroner Education Requirements

A coroner is a person who undertakes the medical inspection and autopsy of deceased persons. The role of a coroner candidate involves studying dead bodies to identify the cause of death. A coroner has a very tough job to perform as the work involves thorough examination of the physical stature of the dead body to find out scars, marks or bruises apart from internal injuries as well.

The candidate is also required to visit the place of death in order to collect evidence of blood samples, human remains etc required to conduct further investigation on cause of death.

Coroner Education Requirements

  • The candidate should acquire an undergraduate degree to become eligible for admission in bachelors degree.
  • The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in medicine to begin with.
  • It is mandatory for the candidates to hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) as the coroners conduct medical examination on dead bodies.

Coroner Degrees, Courses and Certifications

There are many degrees and courses that the coroner candidate should acquire to become eligible for practice in the profession. Some of them are enumerated as below :-

  • Undergraduate program in any field that has subjects related to biology, chemistry, forensics, law or humanities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine.
  • Doctoral degree in medicine.
  • Medical internship program for a period of five years after completion of bachelor’s or doctoral program.

It is important that a coroner has good physical stamina and health to be able to handle the stress involved in the profession.
