Clinical therapists are professionals who provide emotional and psychological counseling to patients suffering from severe emotional disorders. They diagnose and treat the disorders of the individuals through observation and psychological tests in a medical environment. Clinical therapists begin with a one-on-one session with their clients, following which they analyze the issues and identify the treatment methods.

Clinical Therapist Education Requirements

  • Students can begin with a bachelor’s degree in psychology which introduces them to the various functions and process of human behavior and decision-making and also trains them to accurately predict human’s behavior and psychological processes.
  • A master’s degree program in clinical counseling psychology trains students to work as counselors. Students can specialize in their desired careers like marriage counseling, family therapy or organizational psychology.
  • Some of the courses that students take are personality theories, personality assessment, counseling ethics, and addictions counseling.
  • Students complete a practicum by working with families, couples and individuals, under the supervision of a licensed professional counselor.
  • Candidates from Master level training go on to doctoral programs or directly go into practice as a Licensed Professional counselor
