Chemical Engineering Course Requirements

Chemical engineering is a field which has the core subject as Chemistry and includes other subjects such as Physics, Mathematics, and Computers etc. Students who are fresh pass outs and are interested in Chemistry can surely consider this as their field of graduation.

It is a four year course and one needs to pass many different courses in order to successfully become a chemical engineer. Any chemical engineer can be employed at a number of different fields such as maintenance of chemical plants, development of chemical processes, improving methods of productions etc.

The following are the various requirements one needs to fulfil in order to become a certified chemical engineer:

Requirements to enter the field of chemical engineering:

  • One must hold a high school passing certificate from an accredited school.
  • One must satisfy the percentage criteria which are being demanded by the college to which admission is sought.
  • One must pass an entrance examination (if demanded by the university/college). He/she must clear the examination with a score which is above the set criteria.
  • In some cases, a student needs to clear an interview procedure as well to enter the chemical engineering stream.

Requirements to obtain chemical engineering course certificate/degree:

A student who has taken up chemical engineering as his/her stream of engineering must pass the following core subjects in order to attain the degree or certificate of graduation:

  • Transport processes
  • Introduction to Chemical engineering thermodynamics
  • Chemical engineering design
  • Mathematics for engineers
  • Polymer science
  • Quantitative chemical analysis
  • Physical chemistry
  • Heat transfer
  • Chemical process and modelling
  • Differential equations
  • Chemical reactor
  • Fluid dynamics
  • Separation processes
  • Thermodynamics and kinetics
  • Nanotechnology
  • Mass transfer
  • Analytical engineering

The following is a list of the orientation courses one needs to pass to attain the degree:

  • Communication and investigation
  • Organisation theory
  • Experimential learning
  • Academic evaluation
  • Fundament of knowledge
  • Fundamental principles 1
  • Professional evaluation
  • Development of graduate study

The following are the research projects which one needs to work upon to get the degree:

  • Bachelor thesis project
  • MBM300 Thesis proposal
  • MBM302 Bachelor thesis(5000 words)

Apart from passing these subjects in the final examination, students also need to pass the internal examinations as well. After an initial review and evaluation of the student’s academic performance through the years, a student’s academic status is defined.
