An assistant media planner is a professional who works under the supervision of media planners. They help the media planners to assist their clients in planning media marketing strategies and coming up with an effective integrated marketing communication at the lowest cost and highest effectiveness. The assistant media planner is responsible to provide a supportive role to the media planner such as making background reports and presentations, maintaining a database of clients and strategies, costing, etc. Candidates who want to become an assistant media planner should at least have a graduate degree in media related subjects like mass communication, journalism, etc. Candidates need not have a work experience although having any forms of hands on experience will definitely help. The following are the education and job requirements of an assistant media planner.

Education Requirements:

  • Candidates who want to become assistant media planners should get enrolled into courses like mass communication, journalism, mass media marketing, etc.
  • Candidates who have undertaken apprenticeships in media planning companies are generally preferred over others.
  • Candidates should have good report making skills, presentation skills, and also good coordination skills.

Job Requirements:

  • An assistant media planner has to take orders from the media planner and execute it accordingly.
  • An assistant media planner is responsible for preparing reports and analysing statistical data collected by media planners through media measurement techniques.
  • The assistant media planner has to perform the detailed cost-benefit analysis of various media marketing strategies and present the best strategy to the media planners so that it can be informed to the client.
